UNIC Prague Internship Programme


The objective of the internship programme is threefold:

  • to provide a framework by which university students from diverse academic backgrounds may be attached to United Nations Information Centre Prague, where their theoretical knowledge can be utilized through practical work assignments;
  • to expose them to the work of the United Nations; and
  • to provide UNIC Prague with the assistance of outstanding students specialised in various professional fields relevant to its needs.

This internship programme is for UNIC Prague only. Students interested in interning at United Nations Headquarters in New York should consult UN website


Overall Format of the Programme

The UNIC Prague Internship Programme generally consists of a consecutive period of at least two months.

This is a full-time programme, e.g. the interns spend five days a week at UNIC, carrying out their assignment under the supervision of a staff member. Requests for part-time, shorter or longer periods are generally not considered.

Eligibility Criteria

The following criteria are used to determine eligibility for the Internship Programme:

  • applicants should be enrolled in a university and should have completed at least two years of study;
  • applicants must be nominated by the relevant Department Head of their university;
  • applicants with completed university studies are also eligible in the year following completion of their studies and if their degree is of relevance to the work of UNIC;
  • applicants must be fluent in both Czech and English;

Conditions of Internship

  • Interns are not paid. Costs of all travel, insurance and accommodation, as well as living expenses, are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions;
  • Interns are responsible for arranging their travel to United Nations Information Centre Prague;
  • The United Nations accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, candidates for internship must show proof of valid medical insurance coverage;
  • Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and not publish any reports or papers based on such information;
  • The UNIC Internship Programme is in no way connected with recruitment for employment at the United Nations and there should be no expectancy as such;

Application Procedure

Eligible candidates who are interested in doing an internship at UNIC Prague must:

  • complete the Application Form (download in rtf) in English with
  • Part II filled out by the Office of the Dean of university, the nominating institution (disregard if you have already completed your studies);
  • include an up to date curriculum vitae and motivation letter;
